A Message from the Director

Debby Cooper, Director, 2023-2025

Welcome to the 2023-2025 Deep South Garden Clubs, Inc. Administration!  We hit the ground running with our fabulous, fun, and educational DSGC Convention back in March in Kenner, LA, hosted by the Louisiana Garden Club Federation, Inc.  A special thank you to Elizabeth McDougald, Convention Chairman, and her committee members for a job well done.  We welcome our Diamonds of the Deep South (State Presidents) with open arms and full support of their efforts.  Our goal is to all work together to improve and enhance our surroundings.  We can all learn from each other.

Our Deep South theme is “Decorate the Deep South with Floral Design.”  Cash awards will be offered for efforts in designated areas.  To complement the theme, we will host a Regional Flower Show in Georgia in 2025 with all six states participating. I welcome suggestions, comments, and concerns.  Lastly, I truly look forward to working with all of our members and representing DSGC to the best of my ability.

Here’s a little background on me

I moved to Mississippi in 1977 and was co-owner of Cooper Animal Hospital in Greenwood where I worked alongside my Veterinarian husband for over 45 years.  We have two children and three grandchildren.

I have held numerous offices including Past President of The Garden Clubs of Mississippi, 2015-2017, and numerous board positions with GCM, DSGC, and the National Garden Club over the years.

Currently, I am the Garden Clubs of Mississippi State Awards Chairman, a member of the Flower Show Awards Committee, and Interim Treasurer. I am also an NGC Master Flower Show Judge, Gardening Consultant, Landscape Design Consultant, and Environmental Consultant.

Most importantly, I love every aspect of flower shows and truly enjoy promoting others to be creative and develop their design and horticulture talents. In my spare time, like most of you, I enjoy gardening, but also gambling!
